When should I reach out for help?
Many boys are reluctant to seek help for mental health problems and this can be especially true for boys who believe that they should be able to sort out mental health problems on their own.
It helps to have some knowledge about mental health issues and what kinds of support and advice are available.
There are no set rules about the time to seek help for mental health issues but essentially it would be if you were concerned about, or noticing considerable changes in your own thoughts, feelings and/or behaviours. For example, you may be feeling sad, teary, worried or irritable more than usual, you may be feeling that everything is becoming too difficult and that you can’t get through the next day, or you may be unable to sleep, unable to find enjoyment in anything or have racing thoughts and speech.
If things like these are happening, are out of the ordinary for you and go on for more than a few days then this would be a time to reach out for some help.
Who can I speak to?
At Scotch there are many people we can speak to:

Reaching out to friends and family is also important, and they can help us to navigate our feelings and decide upon the best course of action.
